Hi David,

Great question!

I’m going to answer this in two parts.

First, With some software, (most of the free software and any software made in the US) You are right, you must first decrypt the DVD with different software and then convert the movie with conversion software. This applies to any software you can buy in a retail store, such as Roxio or other no name brands. Of course they want to make sales, so they won’t tell their software does not work on Hollywood movies.

They won’t work on Hollywood movies because in the US there are laws against creating software with the ability to decrypt a DVD. This was done to prevent DVD piracy, not necessarily to prevent people from playing movies on their iPod, but that is a side effect.

For your question, the steps to convert a DVD to the iPod Touch are:

1. Decrypt the DVD with separate software
2. Use another program to convert the DVD (make sure it’s reputable software, as with bad software it can be almost impossible to get the settings right to make the sound line up with the images.)
3. Upload the converted DVD to your iPod Touch through iTunes.

Second…. Yes, if you have the money, it is much easier to just buy the Cucusoft DVD to iPod Suite as it will decrypt the DVD and convert it to the iPod Mp4 format in one step. Cucusoft can do this because they are the Chinese company and can freely make software that will decrypt DVDs.

With Cucusoft you can cut out the first step of decrypting the DVD.

So now you just have 2 steps…

1. Use Cucusoft to convert the DVD
2. Upload the converted DVD to your iPod Touch through iTunes.

Now the Cucusoft suite will convert both DVDs and different formats of Downloaded video from the internet. On the other hand if money is tight, Cucusoft also sells the DVD to iPod converter without the video converter for $15 cheaper. Most people end up buying the suite as it is handy to be able to convert your downloaded video clips, and saves you $15 buying the software together.

Feel free to download the software from DVD to iPod Review as everything here has been checked to be spyware free.

The review page with downloads for Cucusoft is here:

I hope that answered you question, if not I love feedback, also if there’s anything else don’t hesitate to ask!

What are the steps to convert DVD movies to Apple IPod Touch ?
Do I have to convert the DVD Decrypter software first and then use the ipod converter and load into the itune ? Is it simplier to use the Cucusoft DVD to ipod Conversion Suite (2) ?
Thanks for your reply.
