iPod Touch, iPhone 2.2.1 update now available

Apple’s got a treat for all you iPhone fans, as it just released a new firmware update for the super-popular smartphone. Version 2.2.1 is mainly a bugfix, so there are no cool new features being unlocked, but we won’t complain.

Safari gets tweaked for greater overall stability, which should help smooth out any rough edges you’ve been having with your browser experience, and Apple fixes a bug keeping pictures from email attachments from showing up in your gallery correctly. There’s also a fix for file compatibility, improving playback of Apple Lossless files in some cases.

This fun isn’t just for iPhone users, as Apple also has the new firmware available for iPod touch models. You can upgrade your gadgets now by connecting them to iTunes. The only thing that throws us off about this — these little bug fixes somehow require a massive 246 MB download. A little excessive, eh, Apple?

Our two cents:

The firmware update does address some annoying bugs however, I do agree that the download size for so little fixes is a tad too heavy. Overall, if you don’t mind the little bugs all that much – just wait it out until Apple releases a better firmware update.
